From the moment you know you are expecting a baby, all you do is prepare for their arrival and safety. For most parents, this also means preparing to provide an environment that nurtures healthy growth and development. You may read books, watch YouTube videos and even talk to your friends and family, so you are well prepared.
But, as we all know, parenting rules aren’t set on stone, and you have to think of it as a gray area. Luckily, dozens of research have been conducted to provide guidelines for raising happy, healthy children.
1. Educational well being
Every child has a right to access formal education from kindergarten to university. Learning involves going to school to learn under a teacher’s guidance and also parents’ participation at home. Before joining a school, start by teaching your children some basic skills. Think of numbers, art, painting, modeling, and singing to boost their memory. After joining a school, guide your children when doing their homework, choosing their major subjects, and the career paths they want to follow.

Human beings are social beings. Children rely on you to teach them how to socialize with others. So, spend enough time with your child and encourage them to build their confidence. You can easily do this by applauding them and constantly telling them they can be anything they put their minds to. Start doing this from an early age, so your child doesn’t keep to their cocoon. Also, teach them how to respect others, be empathetic, and stand up for themselves. Listen attentively to your child and learn to enjoy their company. Building a relationship with them helps them learn how to build relationships with others.
3. Emotional Aspect
How does your child feel and react in different situations? When they are younger, kids aren’t able to control or name emotions. That’s why a child will throw a tantrum when they are angry and disappointed. To help them, start by introducing a feelings chart and ask your child to mimic what they see on the chart. Next, when your child is angry, disappointed, or happy, ask them to describe how they feel using the chart.
Other things you can do include:
- Create consistency at home by having routines that your child can follow. This creates a sense of security.
- Teach your child to make decisions as it makes your child feel empowered. For instance, let them pick out what to wear.
- Maintain your mental health by taking care of yourself. Take breaks, meditate, work out, etc.
- Don’t expect your child to be perfect. Instead, expect effort and praise them when they try.
According to research, when parents were asked their greatest wish for their kids, at least 90% said they want to see their kids happy. With these tips, you will create a learning environment where your child can grow into a happy all-rounded person.
